Check what you can afford to repay

A loan should fit your life after the repayment, not only on the day it arrives.

Affordability comes before approval

Your current income, living costs, dependants and existing commitments matter. Each new application needs its own assessment, even if a previous loan was repaid. A calculator estimate does not decide affordability.

Choose only what you need

Start with the cost you are trying to cover. Compare alternatives and consider whether you can wait or agree another arrangement with the service provider. A higher available limit is not a recommendation to borrow more.

Three questions before you accept

  1. Can I pay every instalment after food, housing, transport, utilities and existing debts?
  2. Will I still manage if an ordinary expense is higher than expected?
  3. Would I need to borrow again to repay this loan?

If the third answer is yes, stop and reconsider. The budget planner can help organise your figures without sending them anywhere.

Support before another loan

Do not use a new loan to unlock a loyalty benefit or cover a continuing debt problem. Read what to do when repayments are difficult and consider independent registered debt-counselling assistance.
