How a loan application works

From checking the cost to understanding your repayments, here is what to expect.

Submit application

Opens an external application service. Check its terms before submitting. About this link.

  1. Calculate the repayments

Check every instalment and the total against your budget.

  2. Prepare your documents

Have your ID, income evidence and bank information ready.

  3. Read the written offer

Check the creditor, fees, dates and repayment method before accepting.

  4. Keep the payment schedule

Make repayments as agreed. Contact the creditor early if a payment becomes difficult.

Start with the repayment, not the limit

Use the calculator to choose an amount and a term. Check the highest monthly payment against your essential living costs and existing commitments. A calculation is not a credit check or an application.

Prepare before you apply

Gather your ID, evidence of income and recent bank information. Only provide these through the verified application service. This website does not ask you to upload documents, send a bank PIN or share a one-time password.

A new assessment for every application

The creditor checks identity, income, expenses, current credit commitments and affordability. Information may need to be clarified before a decision. A previous loan or the amount selected in the calculator is not an approval.

Read the offer before accepting

Check the amount you receive, all fees, interest, each repayment date and total repayment. If a Together benefit applies, it must be shown in the offer. Do not accept an amount you cannot repay after covering essentials.

Payout and repayment

Acceptance, payout processing and the money appearing in your bank account are different events. Timing depends on completed checks and bank processing. The agreed repayment method is confirmed with your loan documents. See payout guidance and repayment information.

Keep a checklist beside the offer

Use the quotation checklist to compare the payout, fees, actual payment dates and any benefit. For an unfamiliar phrase, open the loan glossary. Do not accept an unclear term because an application is already in progress.
