Identify the records and the holder

For information connected with a loan agreement, start with the full legal name of the creditor in that agreement. Describe the records you are seeking and the relevant dates or reference. A trading name alone may not identify the responsible organisation.

Obtain the applicable PAIA manual

Ask the responsible organisation’s Information Officer for its current PAIA manual, request form, contact channel and any applicable requirements. The manual should identify the organisation, categories of records and how to make a request. This guidance is not a substitute for that organisation’s manual.

Prepare the request

Be specific about the records and the right you seek to exercise or protect where required. Ask for a secure way to provide any necessary identity verification. Do not send banking credentials. Keep a copy of the request and acknowledgement.

Official guidance

The Information Regulator provides guidance about PAIA and access to information. Use its current instructions for forms, rights and complaint processes.
