Start with an accurate picture
Write down what you owe, the next due dates and the money available after essentials. Include all existing credit commitments. An honest view of the shortfall helps you explain the problem and avoid promising an amount you cannot sustain.
The budget planner can be used privately in your browser or printed. No budget information is sent to Lendeka by that tool.
Contact the creditor early
Use verified details on the agreement. Explain what changed and whether the difficulty is temporary. Give your agreement reference and ask what options are available. If you have already missed a payment, making contact is still useful.
Questions to ask about an arrangement
- What payment amount and dates would apply?
- Would interest or fees continue, and what would the new total be?
- Would the term change?
- How would the arrangement affect credit reporting?
- What happens if circumstances worsen again?
- How will the agreed arrangement be confirmed in writing?
An enquiry is not a payment holiday. Continue to check the actual agreement until an authorised change has been confirmed.
When several debts are difficult
Consider speaking to an NCR-registered debt counsellor about your circumstances and available processes. Verify the adviser and ask about fees, effects and obligations before agreeing. Avoid anyone promising instant removal from debt review or guaranteed deletion of accurate credit information.
Do not borrow to unlock a benefit
A loyalty discount is not a solution to a recurring shortfall. Another loan can make the next month harder. Support information and the right to raise a complaint do not depend on applying for more credit.
Keep a simple record
Record contact dates, names or references, the options discussed and any agreed changes. Keep payment confirmations. If an issue cannot be resolved, use the complaints process without losing sight of the separate repayment discussion.
